Valentine's Day Memories

Happy Valentine's Day to all of our loved ones, family and friends! Hope you all are showered with love on this special day. I wanted to share a memory of Valentine's Day that I hold close to my heart. Many people recognize the holiday as a time to show your love and appreciation to your spouse, lover, significant other, etc. but rarely do people mention parents and their kids. This is my favorite Valentine's Day memory: My Dad worked a lot when Dustin, Brandon and I were younger. (Heck, he's still a workaholic!) but each Valentine's day he made a point to show his love for not only Mom, but us kids too. No matter what shift he was working we knew that each Valentine's Day morning, whether it fell on a weekend or weekday, when we woke up that morning there would be a card and sometimes flowers for Mom and three little boxes of Valentine's candy on the kitchen counter for us kids. Some years they were chocolates and some years it was those little boxes of heart shaped candies with messages printed on them. It was a small gesture but for me it was something that reminded me that Dad was thinking of us on Valentine's Day too!
