This weekend, Tim and I took the day and went up to see how Japan does Disney! We spent the day at the Tokyo Disneyland Resort, located just outside of downtown Tokyo. Japan has two parks that make up their Disney Resort, Disneyland and DisneySEA park. We didn't make it to the DisneySEA park, we figured we would save that for another day!
We arrived right when the park opened and though it was drizzling a bit when we arrived, the rain eventually tapered off and we were able to enjoy the park free of long lines and crowds. The first thing you notice that's different at Tokyo Japan, is of course, the language. Most of the rides that are narrated are in Japanese, which is fine...we've been on them several time to know what they are singing! We also noticed that the Disney characters that are usually played by people (princes or princesses) were wearing face masks that made them look like the characters. This made us laugh a little, knowing that under the Caucasian face masks they were wearing were all Japanese people.
Tokyo Disneyland is quite small, even smaller than the original Disneyland in California. They sure do their best to give the Japanese an idea of what Disney is all about. I don't think we will be going back anytime soon...it was sort of a one time deal for us. It would be nice to go back and explore DisneySEA, which seems to be a theme park/water park wrapped into one. For now, we've checked one more thing off of our "to-do" list here in Japan!
