Earthquake

Well, Tim managed to come home just in time for us both to experience our first real earthquake here in California. Sure, I've mentioned a few small ones while he was gone...a picture frame falling off the dresser, curtains swaying and the couch rumbling a little. But yesterday's quake was a completely different experience; one I think I would be happy not reliving again for the rest of my life! I was at work and Tim was thankfully at home with the dogs, which put me at ease completely. My worst fear when he was gone was that something would happen and the dogs would be home by themselves wondering what the heck was happening and where their Mom was. It was approximately 3:40pm and ended up being a 7.2 earthquake even though the news first reported it as a 6.9. At work, our hotel was evacuated. We took cover in doorways at first but as the tremors grew stronger and the shaking got louder and louder we all ran for the doors and went outside to the street. Talk about weird... try to imagine holding a doorway and see it with your very eyes move like rubber in your own hands! Unfortunately, most of the damage and a couple deaths were reported just a few miles south in Mexico. We are keeping those friends of ours that live in that area in our thoughts and hope that yesterday's rumble was the worst of it. There were and still are several aftershocks, 100+ everywhere from Baja California up to Los Angeles. The most recent here was just an hour ago which is why I am up so early this morning. The news is reporting that if another quake does happen, it will most likely take place within the next three days...let's all hope that for our sake, it doesn't. However, if it does we're prepared and well aware of the steps to take to be safe! :)
