One Fun Filled Week!

What an amazing week we had with Dustin and Rachael on their first visit to San Diego! We say "first" because we hope they visit again soon! They flew in Thursday night and Tim was able to join us when he came back home on Friday and throughout the weekend. Here are some pictures and recaps from our week's adventures!

Monday we headed downtown. Ohio State's basketball team had a game that afternoon so we stopped by a local bar in the Gaslamp Quarter and had lunch and watched part of the game. Afterwards we stopped at the USS Midway museum. Dustin loves all things that fly so he had a blast checking out all of the old aircraft on the flight deck. He and Rachael also had a great time in the fighter jet simulator (pictured above)!

Friday night dinner (and a lot of drinks) out at Old Town!

After dinner we stopped at a cigar bar because we know Dustin loves his cigars. By the end of the night, all of us, even Rachael and I, had one too along with a bottle of wine. Who would have thought we would be so sophisticated? ;)

Saturday we headed out to La Jolla for kayaking the cove. Afterwards we headed to OB (Ocean Beach) for Hodad's, best burgers around, bar hopping and some March Madness! Sunday we attempted to go whale watching, one of Rachael's bucket list items. However once we got out of the bay there were super strong gale force winds and huge waves! At one point Rachael said she felt like Forrest Gump and Lt. Dan on their shrimp boat caught in the storm! It was a mess, people getting sea sick all over the boat and tons of rocking. Needless to say after an hour, the boat was turned around and we were forced back in. Thankfully, we were given "whale checks" to try to excursion again later in the week!

By Monday, Tim had to leave again and the rest of us were exhausted! It happened to rain that day so we spent the day in watching TV, playing cards and board games. Perfect lazy day!

Tuesday was Sea World Day! Rachael and Dustin hadn't been to a Sea World since they were little and visited the one we use to have in Ohio. So it was a perfect sunny day to revisit Shamu and all of the old favorites. The picture above was when Rachael and I had the chance to feed a baby dolphin! Dustin opted to watch from the other side of the tank and take pictures of us!

On Wednesday, their last day in San Diego, we took advantage of our "whale checks"and headed back out onto the bay. This happened to be the nicest and sunniest day of their whole trip so I'm glad we decided to give it another try. We saw tons of whales and unfortunately, the picture above is the best one I took...still trying to work the new camera!

They left early Thursday morning and we hope that they had just as much fun as Tim and I did! Although I was sad to see them leave Tim and I will be flying home next Friday for his pre-deployment leave so we will be in Ohio for a week to see the whole family!
