Househunting In Japan

 Today Tim and I ventured out on our first showing to look for a house out in town. The Housing Office here set up our appointment with the real estate agent. We walked off base and just a few blocks to the Hotel New Yokosuka. We arrived early, of course and were soon picked up by Ms. Nagasama. She politely explained she didn't speak any English, in which we responded we didn't speak any Japanese either! :)

She drove us about fifteen minutes from the base all on side roads (my biggest fear is having to drive on the freeways here). The first house we saw we both loved right away. We didn't want to get too excited until we had something to compare it to. The house was located in a very nice and quiet neighborhood, right down the street from a grocery store. Here are some picture of the first house we saw and so far number one on our list!

 Plenty storage space...more closets than our house in San Diego had, that's for sure!

 Stove top with fish grill, most traditional Japanese homes do not have ovens!

 Extra storage space is in the floor...these two storage compartments are in the kitchen floor and can be refrigerated.

 A traditional Japanese tatami room. Tatami is a durable straw mat that covers the floors. A tatami room is usually used for sleeping however this room is on the first floor located right off of the foyer so we think it would make a great dining room!
